I discovered today that we have decservers 900 plugged into a hub900 that receive a bad executable : that of a decserver 700 (probably someone copied the 700 exe to wweng2.sys).

After the boot the decserver works but it thinks that it is a 700. Then you do config and one day you reboot again. All config is lost.

Dangerous feature !

Other victems on this forum ?

No, but a DECserver is not a safe means for storing the configuration - in the past I have always saved the commands for setup in a separate text file.

I know that there are tools (TSM?) to capture the configuration and save it somewhere else, but I didn't have any in the 80s and 90s.

Uwe,

That is what we do : we use tsm. For some models we have scripts to unload the config into text files but not for the ds900.

1 decserver had the correct exe because it was served by an HP portable at the moment of installation.

Now I find that WWENG2.SYS is used for decserver 700 AND 900. I have 2 exe's WWENG2.SYS : 1 of 15 sep 1994 and 1 of 28 feb 2004.
Can I simply replace the wweng2 file by the new file ?

Wim

Decserver wweng2 contains the code for both the DS900 and the DS700/DS7xx products. After saving your config, try and reset your DS900 back to factory, and reload the wweng2 image again.
-Jon

Jon,

No good. As said, the exe is used for both decservers. But it doesn't work on a 900. If I replace the exe, I need to be sure that the 700 model is handling the exe correctly. And that I can't test ...
The 900 has already been replaced. Same problem after replacement.

Wim

Wim, No, the version and BL you are using is very old. Our last release of DNAS code was 4/2004. I believe you may have hardware issues with newer code. We require 4meg ram, in the box (show mem). --Jon
