Hello Roy,

wrong question to ask here for at least two reasons ;-)

1.) All the regulars here will declare you nuts to want to exchange VMS to Windows ;-)

2.) What you try will not work. Assuming you are having an AlphaServer (not a VAX) there have been versions of WindowsNT that given the right server will run, but there has never been a supported version of Windows 2000 for Alpha.

Greetings, Martin

roy,

You don't say what hardware you have, but if it's running OpenVMS V7.2, it must be either a VAX or an Alpha. That being the case, you can't run Windows 2000. Windows only runs on Intel chips, not VAX or Alpha (though there have been a few "SoftPC" implementations that let you run Windows under OpenVMS).

Roy,

Why in heaven's name do you want to get rid op the most stable OS in the world, and switch to something that needs a reboot at least once a week?

And apart from that, if your system is a VAX, no way it can run W2K, and if it's an Alpha, you might succeed in installing Windows NT, but definitely not W2K.

Greetz,

Kris
Roy,
As many of us have suggested here, you would be better off running VMS than other OS. Never the less, i am not sure what compulsions you have.

Please take note of the following

1. What is the hardware you are having. Since you mention that you are already running OpenVMS v7.2, i am assuming that your hardware is either a VAX or an Alpha? Please let us know this.

2. Once you answer the above question, we would be able to tell you the equivalent WinNT version that you can run on your computer.

3. In any case, do take note that if your computer is already running OpenVMS 7.2 (it should be a VAX or an Alpha), there is no way you can run Windows 2000 on it

Let us know if you have any questions

regards
Mobeen

I agree that Roy needs to specify hardware that he is using. Everyone else has assumed that it is a VAX or Alpha (which is probably a good assumption), but is it possible that he has a PC running Charon VAX? I know nothing about Charon VAX, I have only seen it mentioned in the newsgroups and possibly this forum.

Hi Dale,

to run CHARON-VAX you do need a host operating system, in many (most) cases Windows, so the question would be moot.

Greetigns, Martin
