I'm not sure that 1GB DIMMs are supported in the DS10. All the information I've seen shows 512MB DIMMs as the largest supported by the DS10.

I am going to install 2 x 1Gb DIMMs into my DS10 and would like to know if the system will recognize the change on boot and run autogen.

Thanks for that.
I had almost come to that conclusion.
Autogen will calculate the default page, swap and dump files sizes and locations. I guess I would only need to use modparams.dat if I need to change the defaults??

Tony,

that is essentially correct.

But you might seriously contemplate NOT to increase page-, swap-, and dumpfile!
If you have more memory, you priobably need them even less.

For that, in MODPARAMS specidy
PAGEFILE=0
SWAPFILE=0
DUMPFILE=0
That directs AUTOGEN to leave those alone.

Furthermore, at those amounts of memory you might well consider to NOT dump the full memory when dumping.

Carefully read the help from
MC SYSGEN HELP SYS_PAR DUMPSTYLE, and decide YOUR optimum choice.

Using the pagefile for swapping as well is also possible, under governance of the same param.

hth

Proost.

Have one on me.

Jan

Magic. Thanks for that.
We have 768Mb in right now but are getting 90% memory usage at peak times and users are denied a session.
I figured whilst we had the lid off we might as well put in 2Gb.

Tony,

"and users are denied a session"

that probably is NOT to do with memory usage directly!

Usually that means that some number, like MAXPROCESSCNT, runs into the wall.
The typical symptom of running out of mem is
very severe slowdown. But at 90% mem use, you still have some 70 Mb available, which should be more then enough for allowing a new process to be created. Any usefull work is another issue...
At current mem prices, the extra mem is a good investment in all cases!!!

The issue of denied sessions is to be investigated separately.
The point to start is ACCOUNTING.
(if you have not enabled it, this is a good time, and a perfect reason!).
When you get another report of denied session (try to get some of those shortly after they happen),
then do
$ ACCOUNT /SINCE=(not too long before the failure)/USER=(denied username)
Look for a LOGFAIL.
The last item on the line is the Final Status.
$ EXIT %X<FINAL status=""> shows the logfail reason. (leave out the "1" directly after the %X, or you suppress displaying, and that tends to hide the info you are seeking)

If it is not immediately clear from that, report back and we take it from there.

hth.

Proost.

Have one on me.

Jan

</FINAL>

Tony,

Users being "denied a session" is definitely something else, not a shortage of physical memory.

MAXPROCESSCNT and other parameters (and licensing issues) are the most likely cause of users being denied login.

I echo some of the other comments, what exactly is the error message that you are seeing.

- Bob Gezelter, http://www.rlgsc.com
