Setting up a console on terminal server DECSERVER 700

One of our customers wants to set up the ALPHA console using PowerTerm via a DECSERVER 700, and isn't succeeding.

Could someone please give me a "blow-by-blow" description of how this should be done.

Assume using PORT 12 on the terminal server.

Chaim,

Is the terminalserver IP ready and configured or not.
If so,
telnet to terminalserver and 'enter' till you get a '#'
Give here the connection pasword for the terminalserver. Normaly/default ACCESS.
Enter username>
Local> set priv
Password>
Local> change port 12 access remote
This should do the trick, the default settings are normaly OK. But just in case, speed 9600 will do, but 19200 is better.
The help in the terminalserver is just like VMS help: Perfect.
Then you have to configure telnet listener for port 12.
Local> change telnet listener 2012 port 12
Local> change telnet listener 2012 connections enable

If you use define in stead of change you need to logout port 12 before settings will be active:
Local> logout port 12

If you now connect from VMS or a terminalemulation packet to the terminalserver using its IP-adres, but socket 2012 you will automaticly will connected to port 2012, this will be the console for the Alpha if the connectors are wired correctly.

Name: APLUS_x
Session Limit: 4
Enabled Characteristics:
Broadcast, Loss Notification, Message Codes, Remote Modification

If you have issues setting/trying to modify your port characteristics to the ones above, try help and still have issues, let us know and we would try to help
