Hi,

you normally only have one choice, if you want TCP/IP functionality from HP (Compaq/Digital), depending on the architecture and version of OpenVMS in use:

- up to OpenVMS VAX V7.0, you had to install UCX
- OpenVMS VAX V7.1 allowed both UCX V4.2 or TCPIP V5.0
- OpenVMS VAX V7.2 or higher requires TCPIP

- OpenVMS Alpha up to V7.0 required UCX
- OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 allowed both UCX or TCPIP
- OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 or higher requires TCPIP

UCX or TCPIP provide a TCPIP stack for OpenVMS VAX or Alpha with the same kind of functionality. More recent version obviously provide additional features, stability etc.

Volker.

Hi,

UCX is the name of an older implementation of the TCPI/IP stack for VMS. I think to last version was 4.2.
TCP/IP is the name of the new implementation that started with V5.0, current version is V5.5 for VMS 8.2.

Regards,
Kris (aka Qkcl)

It's sometimes hard to find documentation about these old products, but you're lucky. The TCPIP V5.0 Release Notes can be found here:

http://tigger.stcloudstate.edu/~tigger/openvms/72final/6551/6551.HTML

Changes and New Features are listed in Chapter 1.1

Volker.

Note that TCPIP Services for OpenVMS V5.0 was not good. Use a later version if you are going to upgrade.
