Hi,

Can anyone tell me the commands to login to a SCSI controller from VMS prompt.

I have a SCSI TZ87 tape drive and is not recognized by the system. How can I check it without shutting down the system ( ie. from SRM prompt)

Regards
Venkat

Venkata,

The solution may lie with CMOS advanced features (BIOS).

Get into the BIOS and look for lines referring to "SCSI-attached devices" and/or "other boot-devices". Enable as appropriate. Sorry for not being more specific but each BIOS seems to have its own language (probably different from the AMI-BIOS put to my computer).

Alain.

Venkat,
Please see if the link below throws any light

http://www3.sympatico.ca/n.rieck/docs/vax_vms_hsd_notes.html

Just a question, have you run the following

$MC SYSMAN
SYSMAN>IO AUTOCONFIGURE
SYSMAN> IO SCSI_PATH_VERIFY
SYSMAN>exit

Please note that the above commands are Alpha specific

regards
Mobeen

Venkat,
Were you able to get that drive to recognise on your system ?

rgds
Mobeen

In addition to Mobeens questions:

Was the device working and disappeared suddenly ?
Is the SCSI controller a newly added one ? which one ?

If IO autoconfig does not help,
try with ANALYZE/SYSTEM:
CLUE CONFIG if it dees a controller not recognized by standard drivers/autoconfigure.

And: a login to a simple SCSI controller is not possible, only to intelligent ones like raid controllers,HSCs,DSSI etc.

On the back off your tape unit is a tumbwheel with a number. This is your scsi-id. Chance the number and then autoconfig again.

Hi all,

Thanks to everybody who poured out with response.

The issue was solved once the SCSI cable was reseated and the system was rebooted.

To answer Joseph :

1) The drive disappeared after the system was rebooted.

2) The SCSI controller was an existing one.

Thanks & Regards
Venkat
