I have to assume the 255 limit is field entry limit for the screen buffer in VMS mail. This would only amount to 20 or so e-mail addresses and I know I'm getting more sent than this. I am sending the list from a P.C. Client directly to the SMTP Process on the VAX on port 25.

Scott.

Are you using a VMS MAIL distribution list?

I think smtp has line length limitations.

I am not using a VMS Distribution list. This might be an option though. On the other hand I don't know if I can initiate it's use through a client like outlook.

If I can't find someone who knows this I may use myself as a recipient with a couple of thousand messages and count how many arrive.

Scott.

I ran my test and logged the transactions from the P.C. side. I get exactly 500 recipients and then this message...

RX: 250 < <VMS>>... Recipient OK
Error: Recipient count exceeds licencing imposed limit (State 23).
TX: QUIT<END>
RX: 221 venus.testvax.com Service closing transmission channel

Any ideas how to increase this licence limit?

Scott.</END></VMS>

Scott,
I would try using a VMS distribution list.
mail @list_name.dis. You could create the list_name.dis file directly on VMS (or on your PC) as a text file with one address per line. I tried sending a bunch of messages to myself and only got one. So I sent messages to myself at different email addresses and got 18 messages.
You could try sending a test message from a VMS distribution list asking the receipiants to respond. You would get a lot of emails but you could look at the name farthest down the list. If you get a response from the last person on the list, then you're done.
Lawrence
