topic UCX Memory Exhausted in Operating System - OpenVMS

There are lots of VAX servers in WAN links with Open VMS 7.1 and UCX 4.2 ECO 1. Application is all about colleting data through outstations from Remote Areas and pass them to VAX servers via UCX link.

We face the SYSTEM CRASH problems often and the error is "UCX Memory Exhausted".

Please help in solving the same. Do we need to Upgrade UCX version from UCX 4.2 to TCP/Ip 5.1 or above ? Please suggest

Hi,

if you have a system crash on OpenVMS VAX V7.1 and there is a valid SYSDUMP.DMP file, OpenVMS will create a CLUE file during boot after the crash: CLUE$OUTPUT:CLUE$LAST_node.LIS

This small text file will include basic information about the system crash, please consider to attach this file in your next reply.

Please explain and show the exact error message text and operation returning 'UCX Memory exhausted'.

Please note that the highest version of TCPIP supported on OpenVMS VAX V7.1 is TCPIP V5.0A ECO 3. The latest ECO available for UCX V4.2 is ECO 5.

Volker.

Post a copy of your Clue file here, also the results of $ UCX SHOW VERSION

We can probably get you an answer in a few minutes, since your versions are quite old. I would expect to find the crash well known and documented.

Hi,

this is the SAME HALT restart crash as posted in thread:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=821017

Where do you see the error message 'UCX Memory Exhausted' ?

Volker.

Hi Volker,

Is source code required to analyse sysdump.dmp file of a VAx system by any other third party ?

UCX memory exhuasted problem still exists. Pls suggest

Sunil,

some analysis can be done on a VAX system dump without source code (easier than on Alpha).

You have never explained, either in this thread nor in the other one, where you see the 'UCX memory exhausted' message.

As explained in the other thread, the HALT crash happens in a privileged program and this needs to be examined at instruction level to try to find out the instruction stream leading to the HALT. Please see thread

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=821017

for a request for more information.

Volker.
