Hello,
i have the Problem that i must change at first time after installation a new System the Systempassword. After entering the new Passowrd i become this message:
"Illegal password syntax"

what i must do for solve the problem?

Use the command again and this time enter a legal password.
See HELP SET PASSWORD, it describes which characters are legal in a password.

the standard install password was
" 12345678 " and the new pasword was diffently abcdefgh, or abc123def ...
every time i become the same message.

Try
$ help/mess "Illegal password syntax"

result
Enter a password using 1 to 31 alphanumeric characters, the dollar sign ($), or the underscore (_) characters.

Can you post a log or at lease the full error message ?

This is probably a DECwindows (CDE) login, right ?
I vaguely remember an error report about a bug.
Try to use all uppercase (!) characters, maybe it suucceeds.
If not, login through some other means (set host, telnet, ssh) with a command-line interface.

Hi,
are you using cyrillic keyboard? It appears like some key is not "A".."Z" or digit. May you type the same string outer than password so you can see exactly what are you typing?

Manfred,

try entering the new password you want to use in the Username field first - and then delete them before typing in SYSTEM - so that you can see, if all characters echo as expected.

i have found the problem, i connected the local systemconsole over a serial/ip converter. when i connected directly to a vt-terminal that i can change the systempassword.
