Rich,

welcome to the OpenVMS ITRC forum.

These things are called 'Q-numbers' in Digital language. This is from memory, I did not yet find a page on how to decode those numbers:

Q. is for software items
.T is a service item
.L would be a license

-UPI.. is the Unique Product Identifier
This identifies the software product. UPIs could be looked up in the SPDs (Software Product Descriptions), but it's more convenient (for OpenVMS), to look them up in the software rollout reports:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/os/swroll/VAROL.HTML

You'll have the UPI and SPD number in the same line as each software product name. You can use this information to map UPI to understandable product names. You can then use the SPD number to look up the SPD:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/info/spd/

for more details regarding the Q-number.

qq-upiXX- somehow indicates the type of system

-XX indicates media type

Volker.

We are being billed by Cerner for our OpenVMS support. I would like to verify that they are billing us for what we are actually using, but I cannot find the software Model Numbers on the HP web site. What is the deep, dark secret to intrepreting the Model Numbers HP, Comapq and Dec used? For example, what the difference between QT-MTFAE-L9 and QT-MTFAG-L9? What is the significance of the three parts of the model number - "QT", "MTFAE" and "L9" - or any other product, for that matter? How can I determine if the software listed on the invoice is actually installed? I listed the licenses on my system, but the Model Numbers are not part of the information displayed.
Thanks. Rich Durkee.

Hi,

I followed this info for purchasing HW, OS and other compliers. It is very useful.

Software model numbers follow a standard nine-position format as shown here:

1 2 - 3 4 5 6 7 - 8 9

==> 1 2   --- software category
==> 3 4 5 --- unique product identifier
==> 6     --- language identifier
==> 7     --- system tables
==> 8 9   --- values based upon software categories

for example
Position
1 2 - specifies sw category such as
QL-lic for VAX and Alpha
QA for media and doc kit
QB for package sw components (lic/kits/service)
QP for packeged sw lic
QM for lic for pc style and 3rd party prod

The rest of digist positions are explained in the following HP URL for all our DEC/HP hardware and software models. You can find your system and software model and part numbers using this.

http://licensing.hp.com/swl/view.slm?page=pricebk#trad

http://licensing.hp.com/swl/view.slm?page=sld

Archunan
