We currently run OpenVMS 7.2-1H1 and use Sybase Client version 10.0.4.
We use the client to access Sybase databases on Solaris Servers.

We are going to upgrade to 7.3-2 in the not too distant future.
We run TCPWARE for TCP/IP rather than TCP/IP services for OpenVMS (UCX).

I understand that Sybase is no longer devoloped or supported on OpenVMS.
Does anyone else run Sybase clinet under V7.3-2.

Thanks in Advance
Kevin Raven

I've done some basic tests with on VMS 7.3, though not 7.3-2, and everything seemed to work ok. I doubt you'd have any problems, but nothing can really substitute for doing your own qualification and testing when you are dealing with an unsupported product like this.

An alternative to the Sybase clients is FreeTDS:

http://www.freetds.org

There is a program called Attunity which is designed to transfer customers from Sybase.

From a letter:

I'm happy to announce the Sybase Migrations Website. Go to:
hp OpenVMS systems solutions and applications (http://h71000.www7.hp.com/solutions/)

and scroll down to Enterprise Solutions. The new last item "Sybase migrations" takes you there.

Our case will be as follows.

1) Test the latest version of Sybase Client on OpenVMS 7.3-2.
1.1) Ask other users in field if they run with this version combination.
1.2) Test on development/test servers.
1.2.1) If runs then extensive field testing in development and test.

2) If does not run on OpenVMS 7.3-2 , then look into options for moving away from sybase client.

Its early days.
We only use the Sybase client to make SQL query to remote Sybase DB's on Solaris servers.

Well,

not precisely what you need, but,
we have SYBASE Omniconnect running on VMS 7.3-2.
It is used _FROM_ Tru64 5.1-B to access data on VMS, and is working OK.

We _DID_ have to tweek the startup procedure though, the process quota were insufficient, and are hidden somewhat deeper in the startup sequence.

It DOES look promising, but YMMV.

hth.

Proost.

Have one on me.

jpe

PS Kevin,

from your Forum Profile:

<QUOTE>
I have assigned points to 3 of 26 responses to my questions.
</QUOTE>

Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?

Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!

To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption â My Question(s)â you will find â questions or topics with unassigned points â Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.

Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.

PS. â nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum.
We have been running Sybase client 10.0.4 with 7.3-2 without any problems for quite a while. Until the database/application was migrated to Oracle as support from Sybase was discontinued and thus no further development would be made to keep Sybase up with the improved VMS 7.3-2 (and up) functions.
