Yes, it is the graphics kit, but don't know which bug in that kit fixes the problem. The team here also saw the same release note, but it is a guess to know whether or not that was the actual problem. Maybe someone knowing much more about Motif, X and the JVM might be able to shed some light on the issue.

Barry

There is a very important OpenVMS update kit that must be
installed so that the performance of the Data Analyzer
display over IP functions at full speed. Without this
udpate kit, the GUI performance is extremely slow.

Below is an edited output from $ PRODUCT SHOW PRODUCT/FULL
showing the update on an Alpha V7.3-2 system:

---------------------- ----------- ------------ -----------
PRODUCT KIT TYPE STATE MAINTENANCE
---------------------- ----------- ------------ -----------
DEC AXPVMS VMS V7.3-2 Oper System Installed
DEC AXPVMS VMS732_UPDATE V4.0
---------------------- ----------- ------------ -----------

The UPDATE kit is applicable from V7.3-1 of OpenVMS through
V8.2. V8.2-1 includes the code from this update.

The Availability Manager download page will be updated to
include this information.

Barry Kierstein
Availability Manager
OpenVMS Engineering
Barry,

thanks for providing this information.

OpenVMS UPDATE kits are just an accumulation of individual patches released recently. Would you mind to elaborate, which specific ECO patch is needed to solve this performance problem ?

Volker.

Volker,

It is the "VMS732_UPDATE" kit in the PCSI output in the original post. Unfortunately, you can't seem to indent in this forum, but the "DEC AXPVMS VMS732_UPDATE V4.0" should be under the "MAINTENANCE" column.

I realize that the name is rather vague, so one could miss it. However, "UPDATE" is the name of the kit you need.

Barry

Barry,

I was interested in which specific patch inside the UPDATE kit (=collection of patches) addressed this problem.

Ian seems to be right:

From VMS82A_GRAPHICS-V0100:

6.2.1 Performance over TCP/IP Connections Improved

6.2.1.1 Problem Description:

Performance of some DECwindows applications has been improved by setting TCP_NODELAY on the socket when the client opens a connection.

Images Affected:

- [SYSLIB]DECW$TRANSPORT_COMMON.EXE

Volker.
