As I understand it, the login box is displayed by the XDM program, not by CDE.

After login CDE (or the old stuff) is started via a command procedure.

So, not possible ?

Wim

I have enabled XDM on OpenVMS V8.2. Now I get a rather primitive login box in response to XDMCP login requets. I can still start the decw$startlogin process via eXcursion manually. How do I set XDM to display the CDE graphical login prompt (like decw$startlogin)
instead of the primitive dtlogin/dtgreet login box?
thanks

I don't know if this applies but for Thinclient connecting to a Open VMS v7.3-2 host , we had to set the symbol in DECW$DEFAULT-DESKTOP.com for
DECW$START_NEW_DESKTOP == "FALSE"
so that the old style desktop connection would be offered. I thought the default is true and that would offer the "new" desktop style. The login box is different for each style; once logged in the appearance is very different. I don't know if this is what you were asking about or not.

Take with a grain of salt about the symbol. It has been several years since that road was traveled.
