What is UCX, and how do I obtain a 2.5 or 3.x version of it to install on my VMS 5.5-2 servers please?

UCX is short for Ultrix Connection.

Ultrix was a Unix System from DEC.
CX is a common abbreviation for 'connection'.

It is a TCP/IP protocol stack for VMS systems.

Uwe already explained what UCX is.
I think version 4.1 of UCX is also supported on 5.5-2. Maybe someone has an old condist laying about, or you might contact HP to get the savesets.
OTOH, you might want to consider upgrading the VAXes to V7.3 and the latest TCP/IP stack (V5.3eco4, I believe); much more stable than UCX.

If I remember correctly V2.0E was the last
version on V5.5-2.

UCX V4.2 needs at last V6.1.

I have an V2.0E installation at hand, but I'm not sure, if it is legally o.k., to distribute it.

AFAIK, the most recent UCX version that runs on VMS V5.5-2 is V3.3. The latest public ECO, AFAIK, is ECO10 (and you really should insall it!).

UCX require a specific license, so I guess you can't install that.

UCX V4.0 runs on VAX VMS V5.5-2 (and the variants V5.5-2H4, V5.5-2HF and V5.5-2HW).
ECO05 was the last known patch for UCX V4.0 (UCXVAX_E5040). UCX V4.0 is on the December 1995 layered product CD set (and presumably on other CD sets around that date).
