Dear Friends,
I have RA8000 storage array, frequently all the disk shows mount verification error with beep sound in storage array. This storage array is connected with 4 node ES40 Alpha server cluster.
what is the reason for mount verification.

regards,
kumaresh

kumaresh,

welcome to the OpenVMS ITRC forum.

A mount-verification is triggered by certain classes of disk IO errors. OpenVMS tries to re-establish or verify the IO path to and the contents (volume label etc.) of the disk(s), which incurred the IO error.

To further analyze these mount-verifications and trying to find the underlying reason, concentrate on all components in the IO path to the disks.

Look at OPERATOR.LOG entries and ERRLOG entries (using DECevent or WEBES/SEA) on the OpenVMS systems. Also look at the HSG80 console for error messages. Try to document and sort these errors according to their timestamsp and find out, what happens when.

In a SAN, any errors in the FC path to the HSG80 controllers will also cause mount-verifications to trigger.

If there is a beep sounding in the storage array, the problem is most likely in the HSG80s, so start there.

Volker.

The beep is most likely produced by the EMU (Environment Monitoring Unit?). Perhaps there's a power situation (either source or a power supply)? The HSG log should give you a good idea of what's going on.

If you don't have it, consider connecting an old pc's serial port to the HSG console port and using something like KEA (or HyperTerm I guess) with their associated "capture to file" enabled.

Something will turn up. Should be listed as an "instance" or "last failure" code. Have look here when you have a code:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/askkcs/hpcg/215_0_220170202_3985025.html

Cheers,
Art
