I know with 7.0 you could boot to the CD, in root 4.

I *think* you can do it on 6.2 as well.

B/r5: 40000000 cddrive

example

B/R5: 40000000 dka400:

Note, the first number is the root of where you want to boot.

Have fun!

Bob Comarow

Rizwan,

Yes you can use binary CD for booting,
>>> sho dev ---> to identify the name of the CD-ROM device, when the source drive is local CDROM, then it is dka400.

>>> boot dka400

Archunan
Rizman Ahmed,

With all due respect, some of the earlier responses may have erred and quoted the VAX syntax for the boot command (BOOT/R5: xxx).

Check the manual for the particular ALPHA system that you have, to confirm the syntax for the console commands (also, typing HELP at the prompt should give you a list of commands).

The command should be "boot -fl n,m device_name".

Determine the device name of the CDROM using the SHOW DEVICES command. The value of the n,m flags word is described in the OpenVMS manual set. this particular section has not changed in many, many years, so the oldest online version FOR THE ALPHA is quite acceptable (the documentation set is online via http://www.hp.com/go/openvms ).

Also, the above applies to the OS Binary distribution CDROM. The Layered Products CDROMs are not bootable.

I hope that the above is helpful.

- Bob Gezelter, http://www.rlgsc.com
