I just noticed, that after applying the V5.0 version of the VMS732_BACKUP patch, the following no longer works:

$ BACKUP/LOG *.LOG NODE::A.BCK/SAVE

but gives the following error:

%SYSTEM-F-IVDEVNAM, invalid device name
-RUF-W-NORMAL, normal successful completion

Even if NODE is the local node, it fails.
UNDOing the patch restores the functionality (tnx to the guy who implemented the /SAVE qualifier!)

A call has been started.

regards Kalle

PS: Btw, the FTP patch directories are a little bit muddled at the moment, a lot of patches marked ONHOLD with points...

Kalle,

this is a known problem. Wait for VMS732_BACKUP-V0600 or escalate the problem to obtain a pre-release BACKUP image.

Removing VMS732_BACKUP-V0500 is a valid workaround, if you need to use remote saveset names.

Volker.

Kalle,

as I've just learned in the OpenVMS Utility Update session on the OpenVMS bootcamp, this problem only occurs, if you don't specify a device name after the remote node name, so using

$ BACKUP xxx node::disk:<DIR>...

should also be a valid workaround.

Volker.</DIR>

John,

no, this kit does not seem to be there yet. I had received the kit announcement from openvms.org on 29-JUL-2006. Under normal circumstances, the kit should have appeared on the hp FTP server the next day.

Volker.
