Hi Lokesh,

you were 50% right.

the Logical was set false (to a directory, which doesn't exist).

But after I set it right and Restart PCM, the CONS extraxt fails the same way.
Now it is: CONSOLE$ROOT:[ARCHIVE].

Seems that the Logical is not in use, cause we saw that as the logical was set false, the extract looked to the right directory!

Regards Kuddel.

Kuddel,

V1.6-201 is pretty old. There was at least one patch newer, V1.6-412, for the V1.6 release. The release notes for this release don't explicitly claim to fix the issues you're seeing with extract after archive, but the newer patch may help. I was under the impression that there were some significant issues with archiving and extract/review due to some Y2K concerns with V1.6.

If you can locate that particular release, it might help...

bob

Of course, the standard recommendation should be to get the latest product through CA.
However, if you have OpenVMS support through HP, I believe that the V1.6 ECOs are available. I've checked to see if they were posted, but none of the FTP sites I'm able to search have that particular kit. You would be looking for something with a name like: CONSOLE412016

The V1.7 release was after the product was transferred to CA, so requires different licensing. The absolute current release is in the V3.x range now, I think...

bob

re: the bad logical name

The wrong tranlation of the logical name CONSOLE$ARCHIVE did not matter in this case, as the archive directory was set in CONSOLE_CFG.DAT to a specific device and directory:

PCM Edit> show archive
...
Archive Summary
---------------
Archive hours = 24
Archive location = EZK99_D1:[Console.ARCHIVE]

The default for Archive location would be CONSOLE$ARCHIVE.
