ES47, 4 proc, ATI 7500, OpenVMS 8.2 with newest patches (fresh installation).
When using serial console everything works fine. DECwindows work fine.
When using graphics console, system starts to boot (sees boot block) and then got frozen.
Tried to boot from CD. Same problem.
What am I missing?

">>>set console graphics"?

Is the system still talking to the serial
console? (Connect and watch both.)

Hello Steven
After ">>>set console graphics" system is not talking to serial port as console. There is a message on serial port that console is redirected to graphics. Serial port acts as management console (as it should).

Although I do not know if anybody is using a graphics console on an ES47, I think it is highly unpractical. Generally, ES47 systems will be installed in a datacenter, where floor space is expensive. So the more power you can pack in a cabinet, the better. Graphic consoles take up space and are relatively seldom used. (I know, there are monitor/keyboard/mouse units specially designed for this purpose which only take 1 or 2 U when not in use, but those are expensive too).

We use the telnet based console with the COM port connected to a terminal server as backup.

Regards,

Bart Zorn
Hello Bart
I agree with you. But KVM switch is already there and customer is using that switch for remote console(s) access.
And this machine will be added to cluster with ES45 which use graphics console.
