CRON kit

I was asked to make a CRON kit available and here it is.

I packaged the CRON utility together with some DCL as a PCSI kit. It is tested on VAX and Alpha systems. It should work on IA64, but you have to compile/link it (a BUILD.COM is included).
On VMS version older than V7.3, a relink may be neccessary.

It can be installed under VMS$COMMON or on any other destination. Only the releasenotes are copied onto SYS$HELP (only in german) and an identifier CRON_USER is created.

After downloading it, the file attributes of the PCSI file may have to be reset:

$ set file KR-VMS-CRON-V0103--1.PCSI -
/att=(rfm=fix,mrs=8192,lrl=8192)

regards Kalle

See http://it.openvms.org for furthermore details.

Cheers
Antonio
What is a PCSI kit? I am a developer/analyst on VMS, but have never dealt with installing other software on the system. I'm looking for a simple job scheduler, and most dialog points to CRON (or KRON).

How do you apply this PCSI kit to an Alpha system?

Thanks,

John Farmer
john dot farmer at genworth dot com
Cron works great. Thank you. FYI, I couldn't get the mail option to work until I UNcommented the following three lines:

/*            sprintf (logfile, "cron$lib:[LOG]LOG.%05d", sequence);
*             strcat (commandline, "/log=");
*             strcat (commandline, logfile);
*/
