Do you have the VMS DVD ?

If so boot it and off you go. It's all beautifully described in the fine manual.

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83final/ba322_90045/index.html

Greetings,

How would you go about installing OpenVMS 8.3 on an Itegrity (RX4640) server that was once had RHAS 3.0 on it?? The server was bought with OpenVMS 8.2 (at the time), and I had to installed RHAS for testing and now I would like to install the original OS that came with the server.

Should I call HP for support in this case??

Thank you in advance.

Jorge

Jorge,

If you can get to the EFI shell of the system (with the VMS installation DVD present), you can select one of the FSx: devices present, and execute the boot program yourself.

Something like:

Shell> fs0:
fs0:\> ls
Directory of: fs0:\

07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 1,024 EFI
0 File(s) 0 bytes
1 Dir(s)

fs0:\> cd efi
fs0:\EFI> ls
Directory of: fs0:\EFI

07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 1,024 .
07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 0 ..
07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 1,024 IA64
07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 1,024 BOOT
0 File(s) 0 bytes
4 Dir(s)

fs0:\EFI> cd boot
fs0:\EFI\BOOT> ls
Directory of: fs0:\EFI\BOOT

07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 1,024 .
07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 1,024 ..
07/14/06 02:01p 3,945,984 IPB.EXE
07/14/06 02:01p 1,173,504 BOOTIA64.EFI
07/14/06 02:01p 317,440 VMS_BCFG.EFI
07/14/06 02:01p <DIR> 1,024 TOOLS
07/14/06 02:01p 290,816 VMS_SET.EFI
07/14/06 02:01p 287,744 VMS_SHOW.EFI
07/14/06 02:01p 887,296 VMS_SPCFG.EFI
6 File(s) 6,902,784 bytes
3 Dir(s)

Select BOOTIA64.EFI (if I'm not mistaken).

Good luck,
Kris (aka Qkcl)</DIR></DIR></DIR></DIR></DIR></DIR></DIR></DIR>

Jorge,

could it be that the boot manager timeout value is set to ZERO and the Linux system boots immediately, so that you can't enter the EFI boot manager menu ?

If so, try typing CTRL-C ? Or remove the linux disk ?

Volker.
I just figured out that it would be best if you access through the MP port rather than the console port. Once I accessed the MP port, I had to remove the VGA output and select just one (1) output (VT100). After that, I was able to access the EFI boot prompt and did a "reset" and reboot. Once the server rebooted, I accessed the server through the MP port and proceed from booting the /efi/boot/bootia64.efi

Looks like I'm half way done installing the OpenVMS OS. I can't wait to see what this server can do vs. the ES40 that we're currently using.

Thanks everyone for coming to my rescue.

Happy Holidays!!

Jorge
