Advanced Server 7.3A

I have two new servers running open vms 7.3-2 and I installed Advanced Server 7.3A - I tried to configure Advanced Server and I can not get it to talk to my Domain Controller. I have tried both ways - manually adding it and then having advanced server add it - it won't work...anyone else had this issue..??

Your Advanced Server for OpenVMS is presently configured to
run as follows:

1. Run the License Server: NO
2. Enable Timesource service: NO
3. Enable Alerter service: NO
4. Enable Netlogon service: YES
5. Advanced Server domain: NA.NET.DANA.COM
6. Advanced Server role: PRIMARY
7. Advanced Server computer name: LISES2
7a. Advanced Server OpenVMS cluster alias: LISES2-ALIAS
8. Server announce comment: Advanced Server V7.3A for OpenVMS
9. Advanced Server language: English (USA)
10. Enable NT style printing: NO
Enter item number, or RETURN to use these values [DONE]: 6

The Advanced Server role is the part the server will play in its
domain.

A primary domain controller maintains the domain's master user
accounts database and validates logins.

A backup domain controller receives copies of the master database,
validates logins, and can be promoted to primary.

A member server does not receive copies of the master database
or validate logins. It relies on domain controllers to validate
user credentials.

Enter the role of this server (P)rimary/(B)ackup/(M)ember [P]: m

Before joining a domain, the computer must be added to the
domain. This can be done in one of two ways:

- the administrator of the domain uses the administrative
tools to add this computer to the domain, or

- the computer is added automatically by this procedure;
you must supply an administrator account and password

Are you going to supply account/password information [Y]/N y

Enter the name of the primary domain controller for domain NA.NET.DANA.COM: naus
lbdc001
Enter the name of the administrator account: [Administrator] SPD.Lisadmin
Enter the account password in the required case:
Re-enter to verify password:

Process PWRK$KNBDAEMON created with identification 22800672
Confirming domain name with NAUSLBDC001 ...

PWRK-F-COMERR, error communicating with the primary domain controller
Error getting domain name

Since the role selection process failed, the role of your server
is unchanged. If you wish, you may attempt the operation again.
If you choose to exit the selection menu without successfully
choosing a role, you will exit this procedure and the other changes
you have made will not take effect.
LM,

Maybe you specified the TCPIP-domain NA.NET.DANA.COM as Lanmanager domain, or is this correct?

Pinging or tracerouting the domaincontroller works?

Sometimes we had cases in the past, where such problems could be helped with specifying the domain controller in LMHOSTS (on the VMS system).

Maybe you should run the last version V7.3B.

regards Kalle

ADVANCSERV-V0703-A4.PCSI-DCX_AXPEXE is the latest 7.3 eco: 7.3A4 and this release works fine as a member server with Win2003 (you didn't say, but since you're having so much trouble I guessed Win2003:-)

If you see any of your AS computer names, i.e. LISES2, LISES2-ALIAS, ..., defined at your DC or anywhere else in the network, be sure to delete them before trying to PWRK$CONFIG again.

Check your protocols on both computers (AS 7.3A is like WinNT 4.0), and make sure LISES2*'s DNS resolver is looking in the right place.

One you get a join failure the first time (for pretty much any reason), there are lots of things that might need to get untangled.
Ian, right. Thanks for making it clear. I meant to say it was the latest 7.3A ECO. After posting I saw I'd missed the A, but 7.3B had already been mentioned. I think of B as more of a new minor release than an ECO; unless the person who assigns the designations has quinque-phobia;)
