Pathworks Reporting Wrong File Size?

I have a 10 million block file, which VMS reports at 5.2GB :-

Directory SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSEXE]

SYSDUMP.DMP;5 5.19GB

SYSDUMP.DMP;5 File ID: (8022,1812,0)
Size: 10892555/10892690 Owner: [SYSGRP,SYSTEM]

When I look at the file through Advanced Server 7.3A, it says the file is 1,282,078,208 bytes (1.19 GB).

If I check our 2m block PAGEFILE, it does report correctly as 1GB.

Is this a bug in A/S, or is Windows 2K getting it wrong?

I know nothing, but I'd assume that you're
seeing a 32-bit (31-bit, if it's signed) file
size problem.

If a file bigger than 2GB and/or 4GB on the
Windows system looks right, but a similar
file on the VMS system looks wrong, then then
I'd suspect Advanced Server 7.3A.

Look through the release notes for "large"?

I believe there is a file size limit in the Windows world that you've run into. 4GB rings a bell.

Having chatted this through with our Windows guys, I reckon it's a 'feature' of A/S.

As it's based on WindowsNT technology and NTFS, I don't think it's happy with >2GB/>4GB files.

is based, if it's not Windows NT?

Problem:

With earlier versions of the Advanced
Server for OpenVMS, attempts to create, copy,
read, or write a file that is greater than 2
GBs in size would fail.

Solution:

This problem is resolved in Advanced Server
V7.3A for OpenVMS. The server now supports
files that are larger than 2 GBs in size. The
maximum size supported is 4 GBs.

consider upgrading to V7.3B which includes
various fixes.
