OpenVMS v7.3-2, DS25 freezes when using integrated 10/100 port to a CISCO Catalyst switch

Hi,

I have a DS25 running OpenVMS v7.3-2, and TCP/IP v5.4. I am having a big problem with the system freezing/hanging every half day or so. It is not possible to halt the system with the halt button, and neither controlP, or the rmc "halt in" will halt the system.

The integrated 10/100 port is connected to a CISCO Catalyst switch. I have set the speed at 100>bit full duplex on the port, and at console level on the server.

The Integrate 10/100/1000 port is connected to a different network, and there is a fibre DEGPA-SA in the system connected to the same network as the 10/100/1000. These NIC works correctly.

I have found that if I unplug th2 10/100 cable the system runs correctly.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this, or if anybidt has experienced something similar would be appreciated.

That can be a hardware failure.
Drivers for Intel NICs were debuged even before this OS version.
Can you post output of:
TCPIP SHOW INTERFACE
TCPIP SHOW ROUTE
MC LANCP SHOW DEV/PARAM

What version of Alpha firmware are you running? We had a similar problem with an earlier version. We're using 7.0 (the latest rel.).

I don't see anything specific in the release notes.

Do you have TCPIP ECO 5 installed?

$ TCPIP SHOW VERSION

There is a known TCPIP issue which lead to corruption blocking any direct I/O. This will show up as a system "freeze" with no activity allowed. You may get a login prompt, but nothing further. I never tried to unplug network ports, but sounds like similiar behavior.

ECOs can be downloaded from this site under "maintenance and support for Compaq products."

If you do remove the cables and it workes its hardware.
