For how to boot from a SAN device, see WWIDMGR user's manual;

http://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/archive/doc/wwidmgr_v13.pdf

TDC is a performance analysis tool, see;

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/products/tdc/?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

XFC is Extended File Cache, which is part of the operating system, see OpenVMS System Managers Manual Volume 2 (section 4);

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82FINAL/aa-pv5nj-tk/aa-pv5nj-tk.PDF

If you have access to the VMS documentation set, I suggest that you read that; your question regarding "SAN booting" is so vague as to be borderline unanswerable in this forum.

There is probably no commonality whatsoever between TDC and XFC; TDC ("The Data Collector") collects data, typically for performance analysis; XFC (eXtended File Cache) is a shim in the file system that acts as a file cacher (not a logical block cacher, as several 3rd parties provide).

-- Rob

Hi,

you will need to know about wwidmgr, so that you can configure your system to boot from SAN. The wwidmgr manual is available here:-

ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/Alpha/firmware/archive/doc/wwidmgr_v13.pdf

Other important documentation is available online from the main documentation site:-

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/os83_index.html

Pick the tab that is appropriate to your version of OpenVMS.

You will find that the V8.3 installation and upgrade manual has a good section on booting from SAN.

Duncan
