I had the pleasure of attending a non-VMS-specific information security talk by Bob Gezelter on Wednesday. He spoke to our local chapter in his role as an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor. I recommend it if you haven't heard it yet. Thanks for the information and lively presentation, Bob.

--Travis Craig

I too have heard Bob speak numerous times - from back in the days of DECUS Symposiums up to a few weeks ago in Orlando at the HP Technology Forum. He has an in-depth knowledge of OpenVMS as well as in a multitude of other areas.

It is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to gain knowledge from listening to Bob speak.

Allan in Atlanta
More kudos to Bob G.--

Bob and I met at the September 2005 at the Itanium migration workshop that HP and Intel hosted in Phoenix.

I was migrating a large old Fortran application from VMS V7.3-1 to the Itanium 8.2FT release. Bob had many good suggestions about untangling the application's byzantine build procedures, helped figure out some obtuse code, and helped me reproduce a couple of compiler bugs as well. A lot of good advice at no extra cost to me.

(I'm pleased to say that I was able to offer a little help on Bob's application as well...)

Galen
