Jorge,

Copying the UAF is not generally a problem. You will also need to copy the RIGHTLIST and proxy files.

Caution is advised as to the existing users on the systems, and the need to ensure that there are no UIC collisions.

- Bob Gezelter, http://www.rlgsc.com

Greetings,

I would like to know if you could copy an UAF file from one Alpha server to another Alpha server? I just hate to have to create all the VMS accounts all over again on the new VMS server. If you have other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thank you in advance.

Jorge
Here's one write up on merging nodes into a cluster, which is very similar to what you are up to here:

http://64.223.189.234/node/169

You're looking to merge your existing files and the files on the new server.

The sysuaf file is one part of this, the remainder involves the binary identifiers -- the identifiers are all over the place, as what most folks think of as identifiers, and as UIC values and owners and... (This is discussed in the article.)

Some will tell you to copy over all the core files, and this will work, but do check for the various aliases and existing entries for the server usernames. These tend to have different uic and identifier values.

Stephen Hoffman
HoffmanLabs LLC

Several people helped me through a similar process:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=213453

CONVERTing the sysuaf, rightslist etc. files worked out quite well for me as I had very few "collisions".

Cheers,
Art

Jorge,

Be sure to read the article.

As you manipulate those file be sure to use CONVERT, not copy or backup/interlock.

Use CONVERT/SHARE/FDL=nl: to grab data from the source.

use

CONVERT/MERGE/EXCEP=check_these_record.dat to add records to the target.

Hope this helps some,
Hein van den Heuvel (at gmail dot com)
HvdH Performance Consulting
