Restore Workstation OpenVMS 6.2

Hi,

Unfortunately I can't find a bootable CD. Is it possible to boot from eprom (>>>), and boot into single user mode, and then restore the image? Or is it necessary to have the CD??

Geir,

"single user mode" is a U*x concept which does not exist in VMS.
However, the functionality you require is basically, being able to access the (intended) system disk without it being active as systemdisk.
Somehow you need to MOUNT it on a system that is booted from AN other disk. If you can do with some reduced functionality (specifically, disk manipulation) that might be achieved by booting from CD. But it might also be any other disk PROVIDED YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY installed (at least a minimal) system environment on that alternate disk.

So, only YOU can answer your own question: DOES there exist a bootable environment on another disk?

Or, do you have a [SYSE] environment on your system disk? If so, that will enable you to boot with -flag E,0 and load the required environment into memory, and then operate diskless ( "STANDALONE" ).

Thanks for the answer. I have always boot from a CD called â OpenVMS Alpha Operating System V6.2 Binariesâ .

But this time is doesn't work. The last message is:

And from now the system hang.

I have more disk, so maybe I should try to boot and old disk as you propose.

Are you sure that you are not having a hardware problem? Have you checked all of your cabling, for example?
