I have a site that is having problems with DECwindows. They are have to restart DECwindows everytime that login at the console. They are using a KVM Switch between the Terminal and the AS4100's. Attached is a copy of the DECW$SERVER*.log. There is an error within the log file.

Can you tell me what is happening and how to correct?

Thanks

Louann,

Assuming you have the latest patches for your versions of OpenVMS and DECwindows...

Make sure it's an ACTIVE KVM (should have power, and possibly LEDs). Passive switches physically disconnect the mouse, which Alpha's (and many PCs) don't like.

To test this, remove the KVM mouse cable and attach a mouse direct to the Alpha. If that fixes the problem, you'll need to investigate a better KVM.

If it doesn't help, try a directly connected keyboard. If the system still fails without the KVM, please log a case with your local customer support centre for proper diagnosis.
