VMS Multinet problem

We are using VMS multinet to send emails between VMS and Microsoft Exchange 2007. Today it is padding an extra domain to every email that it is sending out. For example: if the email address was username@servername.domain.edu.edu it would try and send it to username@servername.domain.edu.edu

My question is why is it padding the extra .edu to the outgoing email?

what does the following show?
$ multinet configure/mail
MAIL-CONFIG>SHOW

Has the date of MULTINET:START_SMTP_LOCAL.COM or MULTINET:START_SMTP.COM changed from when it was last working as desired? Are there older versions of these files that you can compare the current ones to?

Still nothing we have been working with Multinet on this issue and still nothing at this point.
