V7.3-2?

Not sure what you're asking. TCPIP includes
an SMTP server which should be able to
"connect" to anything, more or less.

TCPIP SHOW VERSION

Do you want the VMS system to send all its
outgoing e-mail to the Exchange server?

Hello and Welcome to ITRC.

The product manuals for the TCP/IP Services package -- including the installation and configuration manual and (particularly for this case) the management documentation -- are available online at the URL:

http://www.hp.com/go/openvms/doc

The information on configuring SMTP is included there.

To complete the configuration, you'll need to know some site-specific details about your local network (eg: addressing, subnet mask, gateways, DNS, etc), as well. This depending on how much of TCP/IP has already been configured, and how much you need to configure here. It's entirely possible your OpenVMS Alpha V7.3-2 system has had its SMTP capabilities configured. Or maybe not, of course.

Read the manuals and learn about IP and SMTP, as implemented on OpenVMS. Wander back here if there's something you don't understand from that material.

Stephen Hoffman
HoffmanLabs LLC
To have the OpenVMS TCPIP SMTP server forward all of it's outgoing mails via another SMTP server (e.g. an Exchange server), you need to specify an alternate gateway in SMTP. In general, you use:

$ TCPIP SET CONFIG SMTP/GATEWAY=ALTERNATE=your.smtp.server

You may need to also configure something on the other SMTP server.

Volker.

By default, SMTP tries to deliver mails addressed to nodes within your domain directly. Other mails will be delivered via the alternate gateway as specified.

Volker.
