      <description>hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt; the env command in RMC will show you the warning / shutdown temperatures - these can be set as well but im not sure how you'd stand with hp contract wise if you did that and some of your circuits got fried.&lt;BR /&gt;why do you want to change these ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;hth&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

Here's a write-up on the RMC for the AlphaServer ES40 series that will give you a feel for what is available and how this stuff works:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;A href="http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/445" target="_blank"&gt;http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/445&lt;/A&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I do not tend to recommend use of the RMC value as the operating environment.  Stay within the published environmental values for operating and storage, for humidity, and rate of change.       <description>You're asking for assistance with enabling the physical destruction of critical components of your system, and to override the safety mechanisms put in place by the AlphaServer hardware engineers.  &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Which leads to the question....&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;What are you up to here?  Barring a military application or analogous life-critical operations and the "run regardless" option, I'm not aware of anyone that does this.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If you're running with a life-critical requirement, you will want to work directly with HP here.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I'm guessing you're probably not looking at water-cooling or other aggressive and retrofitted system and processor cooling techniques.  (A set of water-cooling blocks on the processors of an AlphaServer ES45 would be an interesting and entertaining technical challenge.)  That or the more typical environmental cooling are on your paths forward here, if you proceed.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;These RMC temperature thresholds you're asking about are intended to protect the Alpha microprocessor from irreversible and permanent physical damage.    These last-chance settings are intended to avoid the destruction of the CPUs within your AlphaServer ES45 box.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If you need to reset these thermal limit values to more aggressive and hotter values; to temperatures beyond what the RMC would or should allow, then you'll likely have to load new microcode into the box.  And that presumes you work at HP or otherwise have access to the box.  I'd be surprised if the RMC allowed values outside the specifications.  Which is why you'll want to work with HP, particulalarly if this is a life-critical application.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If this is not life-critical application, then just destroy the Alpha CPUs with whatever physical or chemical or thermal means you might wish.  That'll be easier to accomplish, and will have effectively produce the same results as what you're asking for here.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I'd suggest checking with your manager.  Ask for some guidance on this task you have been assigned.  Water-cooling?   New RMC firmware?  Life-critical?</description>

      <description>Simple answer: &amp;gt;35C&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Smart answer: go read the platform manuals, and go look at the specific RMC setting on the specific box.  I'd not assume the RMC threshold value is the same from box to box.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Best answer: don't let the room get outside the specified temperature range.  Keep the room and the box below 35C.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Or contact your own manager, or a corporate or consultant platform technical specialist, and reference this thread and the particular problem or question you are trying to address here, and work out the required details that way.</description>
