"terminal" comes from "terminal station" as in, f.ex. railway stations where a service begins or ends. It does not have to be a character-cell only screen.

note that the recommended way of doing a quorum fix is now to use AMDS/Availability Manager rather than the IPC at the console.

If quorum ist lost and one can't login, AMDS is not very helpfull, and console access is the only way.
Of course for a permanently logged on system/manger/monitor/operator that's o.k.,
but it's not my situation.
As far as a cluster that's lost quorum, you can either have a system running AMDS that isn't particpating in the cluster or lower yourself to using Availablity Manager on a "Windows" system. Either option has a variety of options for remote access.

Why do they call it "terminal services" if it displays a GUI?

Andy

having a system running or able to run AMDS or Availability manager on the same lan as your production clusters is highly recommended. Apart from fixing quorum it is very useful in chasing quota and lock problems.
