topic Install CIFS on Alpha 8.3, User and Security Setup in Operating System - OpenVMS

Hello,

I am trying to setup the CIFS (Samba) product on my lab Alpha at home. Potential for integrating/sharing some files between our Windows and Alpha systems. Examples or links to "step-by-step" are appreciated.

Detail:
I have installed CIFS using the system account, but need assistance on setting up users and security. I found a couple of tutorials, but I haven't successfully connected to the resource. From Windows XP, I see the Sama/CIFS node as part of my Windows domain. Seems I have missed on how to setup users. Do they have to be the same as Windows user accounts? Do they have to be VMS accounts from SysUAF? Maybe I have something crossed up in the smb.conf config file. This is my lab Alpha at home so I can try pretty much any solution you provide.

Thanks,

John
john dot farmer at genworth dot com

System:
OpenVMS8.3
CIFS 1.1
Windows 2000 Active Directory server
Windows XPPro desktop
