Hi All,

I just need a info,Is it mandatory to reboot VMS cluster after adding new node. or Can we pass on the reboot steps and could add the new member in cluster.
I know we can remove the member without reboot.

Regards

No.

If you needed to reboot everyone when you
added a node, then how could you ever form
a cluster with multiple nodes?

Hi Neelmani,

>> I just need a info,Is it mandatory to reboot VMS cluster after
>> adding new node.
No, its not mandatory at all.
Both Adding as well as removing node from a cluster does not require
a reboot.

For information on cluster setup, Refer -
* Guidelines for OpenVMS Cluster Configurations
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/732final/6318/6318pro.html

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Murali

You can add or remove a node with no reboot required.

There are utilities to manage quorum (expected votes) which you should familiarize yourself with. See http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/os84_index.html and select your version of VMS for the appropriate cluster docs. In addition, the Availability Manager http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/products/availman/index.html?jumpid=/products/openvms/availabilitymanager can force expected votes recalculation into a hung cluster.

Hi,

Adding the new node to cluster or removing the node from cluster does not requires the reboot of the entire cluster. Refer the below link for â Guidelines for OpenVMS Cluster Configurationsâ

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82final/6318/aa-q28lh-tk.pdf

Regards,
Ketan
