Changing ILO hostname with ILOREST

Hello, I hope someone can point me in the right direction as I've seen conflicting information on this. In the ILO GUI we can change the hostname here:

If I want to do this with ILOREST, what is the correct resource to modify? Is it HostName under EthernetInterface, or ManagerNetworkProtocol? Or something else?

Thanks, but those links aren't related to what I'm asking. I'm attempting to do something like this:

ilorest login xx.xx.xx.xx -u admin -p password ilorest select EthernetInterface. ilorest set HostName=ILO-NewHostname

I'm wondering if EthernetInterface is the correct resource to use for this purpose, or if should it be ManagerNetworkProtocol, or something else? This would be for ILO5 or ILO6.

Hi @-mike- ,

For HPE iLO, the hostname you see in the iLO GUI is typically the management controller hostname and is exposed through the Manager Ethernet Interface resource, not ManagerNetworkProtocol. The relevant property is usually:

HostName

under:

/redfish/v1/Managers/1/EthernetInterfaces/1

(or the appropriate EthernetInterface instance for your iLO). This follows the Redfish EthernetInterface schema, which includes HostName and FQDN as network identity properties.

With iLOREST, the workflow is generally:

ilorest login <ilo-ip> -u <user> -p <password>

ilorest select EthernetInterface.

ilorest set HostName=my-new-hostname

ilorest commit

ilorest logout

Or via Redfish PATCH:

PATCH /redfish/v1/Managers/1/EthernetInterfaces/1

{

"HostName": "my-new-hostname"

}

ManagerNetworkProtocol is used for enabling/configuring management services such as HTTPS, SSH, SNMP, Virtual Media, etc., and is not the resource that stores the iLO hostname itself.

If you're unsure on your particular firmware version, a quick way to verify is:

ilorest get HostName --select EthernetInterface.

ilorest select EthernetInterface.

ilorest get

and compare it to the value shown in the GUI.
