When I access the ILO2 features and select Remote Console (the Java option), a new screen pops open and the Java logo animation appears, then nothing happens. I have to open Task Manager to close this window. The other remote consoles (using IE) work fine. Why is the Java one an issue? Tried on serveral PC's but all same result.

We have been expirencing the same here at my company. Seems to happen on iLo's as well as iLo II's. IE 6 and 7. Have tried multiple versions of Java.

Doesn't matter what OS on the server, Windows, Novell or none, we get the same thing: Blank window with a Red X in the upper left hand corner!

My coworker called into HP and didn't get any resolution.

We have tried using the short name, as well as the fully qualified name. By-passing the proxy server. Adding them as trusted sites. Changing the setting for accepting cookies to the leaset secure - nothing seems to work!

Peter,

Tried your advice, still no joy with that. The java window seems to just hang. Also uninstalled all other Java items from the pc and only now have 1.4.2 installed but still have problems viewing the server. Only reason I'm trying the java option is because i'm having other problems with the remote console, getting the "Failed to connect to server. Check for available telnet connection." Have the latest firmware (1.26) which was supposed to correct this issue when using NAT and connecting to ILO2 remotely.

Thanks anyway, will keep on trying.

Turn on the Java console and see what
errors are showing up there. Maybe that
will help clear up if it's a java specific
issue or related to the general connectivity
issue

My thought was that Java Console was free - but seems like it's not... :-(

So is there any possibility to get a free console at all from HP?

Best regards,
Matthias Link.
I still have problems using the Java option - using IE7 & Java 1.5.0. ILO2 firmware is also that lastest. The strange thing is that sometimes it will work and other times it won't. This is without any configuration changes on either the server or laptop I am using. Anyway, gave up in the end and purchased the licence pack so I could use the IE version of IRC !!

FWIW, I found that installing Sun Java Runtime Environment v6 Update 6 (jre-6u6-windows-i586-p-s.exe) caused the DL380 G4 iLo (firmware v1.91) to display the red X when launching the Virtual Devices window.

Sun Java Runtime Environment v5.0 Update 6 (jre-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p.exe) was still on my WS2k3 32-bit server, so I uninstalled Java 6 and now the iLo Virtual Devices operates properly.

HTH!
