In 1.55 firmware, there is an option in the "snmp/insight manager setting", to disable snmp pass-thru. It is under the Admninistration tab.

You can change the community string within the OS. For windows/netware it is the snmp services. For Linux it is the snmp.conf file.

Is it possible to turn off the snmp service in iLO or at least change the default community setting for read-only requests from "public" to something else?

Thanks for the tip. It appears that even without the new iLO firmware, SNMP requests are being forwarded from iLO to the host, and therefore, the SNMP settings on the host were what matters. All I had to do was to delete the read-only entry for public and set it to only respond to one host: 127.0.0.1.
