topic iLO Showing Up in Software But Not Installed in Server Management - Remote Server Management

Hi all,

I am wondering, would an iLO show up as installed with conifguration options and in the Device Manager (WS2019) if it is physically not installed?
The iLO5 was showing up in both Device Manager, as well as the settings for the iLO configuration utility in windows. I went onsite to connect it, assuming that it just never had a cable connected to it, only to find that there was no iLO card installed. In the BIOS of the device, it did not give any indication that it wasn't installed, except for when I tried to configure the network options, I got a warning that the "enablement module is not installed".

Is there a more difinitive way to determine if the iLO is actually installed on the system? Why is it showing up in the device manager if there is no iLO card installed?

Thanks.

Hi,

Please mention the server model.

BTW if this error comes up, "enablement module is not installed" the reason is, Some servers require an optional iLO network enablement module to add support for remote management through a dedicated management network (default) or a shared network connection. If an iLO network enablement module is not installed, iLO access is supported only through host-based (in-band) access methods. Some examples of the supported host-based access methods include the iLO RESTful API, UEFI System Utilities, iLO Service Port (if available), and the Virtual NIC.

More info here.

Thank You!
I work with HPE but opinions expressed here are mine.
HPE Tech Tips videos on How To and Troubleshooting topics

Hello,

As mentioned in a previous post, what comes by default with the server is dependentant on the server model. There are some server models that only come, by default, with no dedicated iLO port. In those servers the iLO management processor is still on those systems, but they would be accessed using the Shared Network Port (SNP). In most servers the default port for the SNP is port 1 of the embedded NIC. For instance, the ML30 Gen10 Plus is one of the servers that comes, by default, with no dedicated port.

The iLO 5 user guide provides some more details on the use and limitations of this port:

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00105236en_us&page=GUID-D7147C7F-2016-0901-06D0-0000000005B1.html

Regards
