Uninstall Smart Component?

Hy,

I update our W2K Proliant Servers with the actual Support Pack v. 7.40b. On some Servers the Version Control Log tells me, that one Smart Component didn't install: "The software is currently installed, but does not need to be installad on this system."

How ever, the Software was installed in the past and now, the Version Control Agent tells me to Update this Smart Component with an critical exclamation mark.

How can I uninstall that Component form the Server? The Smart Component is "HP Proliant Drive Array Notification for Windows".

Michael

U could force installation of the agent. When you choose the particular agent to update it should give you that option.

Hi,
ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS from Contro Panel? You could also try to downgrade? But this requires a reboot. Also is this VC agent you are facing a problem with? Prior to installation did you configure it? Try to configure it before re-installation or downgrade.

The Component I want to uninstall is "HP Proliant Drive Array Notification for Windows" and its not in Add Remove Programs - its not so simpel ;-)

No, I cannot downgrade it, I want to uninstall it, because the VC Agent tells me that it is out of date and I cannot upgrade it because the install of the actual version tells me "The software is currently installed, but does not need to be installad on this system."

I've had something similar before.

Windows is not installing the driver as the product to use it is not there, so you cannot uninstall it. But the driver is there to be seen by VCA.

I got round this by adding in the card that the driver was for - in my case a HBA - then I could look at the driver and remove it.

Looks like you need to hunt around for an old array controller.

Hello,

as I am spending a considerable amount of time myself getting rid of the same problem with a "CSB-6 ATA-100 Raid" driver and a "Ultra320 SCSI HBA" driver, I'ld prefer to hunt arount a bit those guys who do not properly program things instead of hunting around for the hardware which is so "cheap" to come by.

Those components have never been in the systems and the only way these servers are updated are either a full PSP or via VCAgent and a repository.

As those bugs seem to increase in the latest times, I suggest HP provides a "smart component uninstaller" tool which works like the PSP gui but where you can uninstall things.

Btw, uninstalling all HP software with appwiz.cpl and killing all related dirs doesn't help (as expected), but I'ld like to save you the tedious and stupid try.

Erhard
