topic ml370 cluster, g1 to g3 in Server Clustering

I have a MS 2000 Adv. Cluster setup on 2 ML370 G1 servers to 2 RA4100s, Dual paths for everything.
I have just gotten 2 new ML370 G3 servers. I would like to know the best way to upgrage the cluster to the new hardware. 2 fiber cards and 1 nic have to come out of each of the old servers to the new ones.
I have several ideas.
1. Pull the second mirrored drive from clusterserver2. Place it into one of the new servers. Would this boot up and work. Aside from haveing to update some compaq drivers.

2. Do tape IDR restore to the server via veritas backup.

3. Build from scratch.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Your best bet would be to build the servers from scratch, just to make sure that you get all of the right drivers for the new HW. Pulling the mirrored drive and trying to boot from it "might" work, and might be worth a try, but if it doesn't work, it's usually more of a hassle to try to get everyhting working again than it is just to do a fresh install.

Make sure to capture all of the cluster configuration information, as this will need to be restroed as well.

There are several Microsoft KB articles that might be helpful

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;248998&Product=win2000

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=286422

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307469&Product=win2000

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;257892&Product=win2000

The data on the shared storage should be fine. You could try the Veritas backup, but I would make sure that it can pull the cluster configuration.

Hope this helps,
Doug
