ISEE for HP-UX and how to ?

Hi ,

I need to install ISEE for on our Rx7620 platform that consists of HP-UX 11.23i and HP OpenVMS 8.2 (itanium).

We have SAN storage of EVA6000 and that we want to monitor automated script to monitor the SAN disk and processor. We want to understand the installation procedures, how to document for monitoring processor SAN disk and other EVA related monitoring tools at the earliest please.

ISEE on HP-UX can monitor the server but not the EVA.

The procedure is different.

ISEE for EVA must be installed on the management server (where commandview EVA runs), together with WEBES and some other tools.

Ask your HP support!

They can help you to get this working!

ISEE monitors servers, to monitor EVA you must install ex. SANMaster on EVA appliance.

This is not 100% right.

To monitor an EVA, you need to install and configure WEBES on the management server. This will monitor the array. ISEE will transfer the messages to HP support. Together with OSEM you can monitor the array and the management server.

Of course you should set up ISEE on your rx-server too. But this will monitor the server only, more or less.

For the HP-UX server it is easy - it should already be pre-installed. If not, visit

Use a browser and go to

your_servers_address:5060/start.html

and do the config. That's it.

For the EVA it is a bit more complicated. I would suggest to ask your HP support.

hi srikanth, do check connectivity between the rx7620 to the hp back-end first. you should be able to have port 80 opened in your firewall or using your web-proxy to isee.asiapac.hp.com. this is also the same for the SAN Management Appliance (SMA) of the EVA.

You cannot do this from your server.

Sorry, how do I check if port 80 is available for inbound and outbound network connection from the server. I need to get back to network team with appropriate query. What exactly should I ask them to do with port 80 please. In my /etc/services

It has the following entry.

http 80/tcp www # World Wide Web HTTP

Hi,

One way you can test is to run:

# telnet isee.asiapac.hp.com 80

You should get a connection and the screen might be blank.
ISEE needs to communicate with HP using http protocol port 80. Your Network Admin should know how to allow this traffic.

I want to make a correction on a previous post that ISEE is not pre-installed on all Servers, this command will tell you if ISEE exist or not:

# swlist | grep -i isee

If ISEE is not there, you can download from http://software.hp.com, the Installation can also be downloaded from the same location.

you can also go to a browser in the same subnet as the rx7620 and test the connectivity with the following link :

http://isee.asiapac.hp.com/mots/motserv

to check if ISEE is installed :

#swlist -l product ISEEPlatform

in order for ISEE to work, following processes must be running :

#ps -ef |grep mad (mad daemon)
#ps -ef |grep rst (rst listener)
#ps -ef |grep stm (online diag/ems monitor)

Should there be access to the site from our secured production site to "isee.asiapac.hp.com 80" for installation of ISEE. It will be difficult for us to go through the security procedures. Please let me know if there is an alternative to this.

ISEE requires communication outbound (with established back) on port 80, there is no other choice.

This is to ensure that your Server can send hardware incidents to HP and that's the main purpose of ISEE.

Outbound HTTP PROXY access can be used.

At the end of "configuration options" > "system" there is a place where you can specify this.
