Hello,
means you tried to setup the new win2003 server to send SMNP traps to your SPOP, correct? Is the snmp service configured to send snmp traps to the same community the OSEM on your SPOP is in? Are the Insight Agents installed correctly? Is there a firewall between the new server and the SPOP that might block SNMP traps?
regards
Frauke

Hi Cem,

I am a little confused because the SPOP should NOT be running W2003. The OS included with the SPOP is Win2K.

Regarding SMTP Server, during SPOP Initialization, you will need to provide a SMTP Server, the SPOP then tries to send a test Email using this SMTP Server.

If you do not have a SMTP Server available, you can setup the SPOP to be a SMTP Server itself. To do so:

1. Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
2. Double click Add/Remove Programs
3. Select Add Windows Components
4. Click Internet Information Services (IIS) and click details
5. Check the box for the SMTP Service
6. Click OK, click Next
7. Leave the default of Application server mode selected, click next
8. When prompted for the SP3 CD, select Browse, and go to C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386
9. Click finish
10. Delete the logs from
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\ISEE\SPOP\IseeCore\log
as there is an outstanding issue about the passwords being logged.

Start SPOP Initialization again, this time, enter the SPOP name as SMTP Server.

Regards,

Cem,

When you define a SMTP Server, the SPOP tries to send a test email, if the email is able to send, then the Initialization will continue, otherwise, it will fail.
You can test SMTP manually by:

1. "Telnet SMTP_Server 25", you should get a 220 with ESMTP Version.
2. type "EHLO xyz", you will get back some Valid commands.
3. type "mail from someone@domain.com"
4. type "rcpt to contact_email@domain.com"
5. type "data"
6. type "your test message"
7. Hit CONTROL & C
8. quit

Verify if the email was received.

NOTE: Make sure there is no typo in the Contact Email address.

Is the server you entered in the SMTP-Server field the same you use for your "normal" emailing???? If so the question is probably which firewall blocks the traffic. The SPOP itself has no SMTP server running.
By the way - i wonder why you do the installation by yourself - usually someone from HP does that for you.
Regards
Frauke

Interesting....
It works if you talk SMTP directly...

Here is another clue: During SPOP Init, the test email is sent as:

From : isee@hp.com
To: Contact_Email@your_domain.com

Some Mail Servers will NOT allow this kind of email to pass through, they call it "spamming" because the From address = isee@hp.com (which is not the same as your domain name).

You can look at your SMTP Server log, look for isee@hp.com, the mail might be rejected or trashed. You mail server may not "relay" the mail due to some restricted setup. Check the log!

The way to work around is to make the SPOP to be SMTP Server itself. I've included the instructions above, after you set it up, enter the SPOP hostname as SMTP Server during Initialization.

Hope this helps,
