Oops!!.. I was talking about HP System Insight Manager. You have installed in "Compaq Insight Manager 7", which is end of life. There is a new HPSIM available, which is more robust and functionality rich.. http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/download.html

Now, coming back to VCRM problem.

1. In your case VCRM is present on the IM7 server. Are you able to browse to the VCRM from the IM7?

(Open All Systems list. Select the IM7 server name from the query. Device page is shown. Click on "Version control repository Manager" link). See attached image file.

2. If you are able to see the VCRM page, Then the repository should show up in the task.

If you are not seeing the VCRM page in step 1 above, try browsing to the System Management homepage of your IM7 server.
i.e., https://myim7server:2381/vcrepository.
You should see the VCRM page. (Of course you need to login).

Try restarting the HP Version control repository manager service. Then rediscovering the device in IM7. This should work.
The Version Control Repository Manager (VCRM) was not found on any discovered systems. If the VCRM is installed, be sure it is running and that the system it is running on has been discovered by HP Systems Insight Manager. To verify the VCRM is identified, view the Links tab on the system's Device Page. If the system is discovered, but the VCRM does not appear on the systems' Links tab, run an Identify Systems task to that system

After discovering a VCRM device in HPSIM, goto Options->Version Control repository..

Establish a trust relationship between HPSIM and VCRM machine. Then click last update.

Now the Software and firmware task will be able to show the repository..

You may have to restart HPSIM service , if it still doesnt show the VCRM in the task.
Thank you very much.

I managed to find the VCRM.
I was connecting to the IM server via port 50000 and not 2381.

I am now able to get to the software/firmware update task without getting the repository unavailable message.

I will look at the newer version HPSIM.

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards, Major.
