I'm having similar problems even with newer versions on the Insight Agents.

My problem seems to be the NIC driver update. It will go thru the command script and then hang at that point.

If you check the following file
c:\cpqsystem\log\cpsetup.log on the server you are upgrading it will tell you which packages install and which ones don't. It will also show you where it stops.

Mine mostly fail on NIC driver. If you reboot server and extract the NIC drivers and update them using Computer management, Device manager then rerun the command script this semm to resolve issues.

You may also have to rebuild any NIC teams and check speed duplex settings.

I am having problems updating old 5.4 agents that were previously on IM7.When I deploy the 7.2 initial proliant mgmt pack with the new SIM 4.2 server it takes 3 hours to run and only updates the homepage and not the agents or version control mgr. Any clues to whats going on?

I had the same problem going from 6.4 to 7.2 on 4 out of 25 servers.

I had to unistall the NIC teaming software, remove the NIC devices from Device Manager, reboot then re-install everything again. Then I was able to re-install the 7.2 agents.

Scott the log shows the vca updated to 2.01 and the agents updated to 7.2 but when you go to the system homepage its updated but the vca and the agents are the old versions.
