You may want to try some variations in the auto discovery scope (ie IP range, discover after event is received). Also can you add system manually?

Ok, I just installed 4.2 SP2 after uninstalling 4.0. Do I now have to go back in and reinstall agents or will they call back to server. I have done automatic discovery and have not picked up the servers that were there before. Is there an article that I can read that will guide me through this process? Sorry for all the newbie questions, first week at the new job and this is my first somewhat major task, just want to have a thorough understanding of what is going on.

I have so many questions and I have looked through most of the forum. So I will just ask them here and see where that leads me. A little more background, I uninstalled 4.0 but did not touch anything else, ie agents, and then reinstalled 4.2sp2. Would the agents call back to the server? Do I just need to log on to the other servers and tell them to call back to the destination server? I have been going through the online help, but it has not helped me much because everything works perfectly with the online documentation. Should I just open up a ticket with Hp? Has anyone done that for SIM, how knowledgable was the staff? Is the basic setup server and agents? Agents go out to what you want to manage and report back to the server? Any help would be appreciated.

The servers should still be detectable even if they are configured for the old server. I am currently running this type of setup myself. We are actually running 3 Insight Manager servers right now while we migrate the systems to the newest HP SIM SP2 server. The configuration on the systems should only pertain to the VCA, which shouldn't prevent you from discovering them in the new server. Once the servers have been discovered, you can then repair or replicate the agent settings to ensure everyone is pointing to your new server.

It's sounds like you need to read the Installation Guide. I was given a project of getting HP SIM up and running, and much like you I didn't have any experience with it and was a newbie at the company. I was able to figure it out by using the PDF I've attached. I think the documentation is quite helpful.
