I dont see the Status Change Event Settings under Options. I just installed SIM 4.0

If I understand this correctly try going to Customize at the Top Right of the screen.

Select both Hardware Status and Uncleared System Event status

I'm seeing this as well. All events pages display the message "To view event details, make sure 'Event Type' column is displayed and click on desired link", however, the customize button is missing. see attached screenshot.

Check your JRE version. I have more than one version installed, and when I set the active one to JRE 1.41, everything looks good.

In IE, make sure under Tools / Internet Options / Advanced /Java (Sun)
The "Use Java 2 v..." should not be checked. This way the application selects the JRE to use not the browser.

But, I don't know whether this is the same issue the original poster was outlining.
