I'm having a strange problem with HPSim 4.2 sp2. I have disk thresholds set on several volumes on the same machine. On one volume it lists

Used space as 187312Mb
Unused space as 0Mb
Total Space as 187312 Mb

This is fine as it is reporting correctly the drive IS out of space. The problem is the bar graph on the right side of the screen (where the sliders are for setting thresholds) shows 10% used, so I never recieved a trap saying the drive was full. Why would this display be so far off? Two of the 5 volumes on this machine are reporting incorrectly. Any ideas?

Hi Brian,

Just a shot, but the disk space threshold is a feature of the HP agents running on the server and not HP SIM. So even though you are at the latest/greatest version of SIM, you might be running a bad version of the agents on that server that incorrectly reports disk space usage.

Perhaps try upgrading that server to the last version of the agents (now at 7.30) if that server is not already there.

Hope this helps.
Nelson

Hey Nelson,
Thanks for the reply. The management agents are all up to 7.30. I do have to update a couple of the online flash components, but I have to wait until off peak hours to reboot, so they'll have to wait. They shouldn't have an effect on what I'm seeing anyway should they? I dunno, this whole thing has me stumped. I'll see what it tells me in the morning after a reboot, and I'll post back.

Brian,
I've logged this issue with HP.
I've seen it on various large arrays. The percentage full figure is incorrect.

I was hoping 7.30A was going to resolve this, I'm testing further tonight and was to let the HP analyst know.
It seems you may have preempted my testing, but I'll check it anyway.

I've not yet determined the relationship, but, the larger the array, the sooner the percentage full figures start to display incorrectly.
And it's not just when the device is full.

No, Support Pack 7.30A does not fix the problem.
I've let the HP guy know who has our call.

It's a pain as it stops all of your threshold reporting for large arrays.
Oddly enough, they're some of our most critical.

Very true.. It is one of our most important systems. Unfortunatly I didn't realize we were getting so low on disk space until it became an issue. Which left me more than a little red faced. Thanks for the update and please let me know of any resolutions.

Thanks Brian

Not yet, but I have re-requested information from the call.

I've also tried to make it clear it's not just me!
As far as I can see this will affect anyone with large disk arrays.
I wish I could determine what the threshold is where it starts to go wrong. One thing I do know, the bigger the array, the sooner the problem is noticeable.

I've not heard anything yet, but I'm now optimistic that the call has been taken up by the right people.

At this point I do not know of anything you can do to fix the problem.
I run a weekly report that reports on disks over 80% utilised.
I've changed my script to pick up the capacity and usage figures and work out the precentage manually.
This at least keeps me in touch with what is happening.
