Is there away to remove items that are not upgraded up out of version control. So that the items do show up a yellow when a new item is available like. For example like a ILO update showing up on a older server like a DL380 where a ILO does not exist. We use a standard script that install things for all HP servers.

I'm a bit confused by what you're saying here.

The VCA does take the Server type into account and indicates the software required.

The best reason to deploy the entire Support Pack is that all of the dependencies and required drivers etc. are installed.

The System Management Driver installed in a generation 1 DL that has no ILO is different from the version installed for later ones.

The VCA gives an accurate representation of what should be installed.
If a Reference Pack is set, then the overall status is reported against just the elements of the Reference pack and not all items in the VCA.

For example on a DL380 in the Installed software there is a listing for a 'hp ProLiant Hot Plug Memory Driver for Windows Server 2003' of version 1.0.130.3. The lastest version is 1.0.135.3. Since there is a newer version the item shows up a yellow. When you try and install it reports the folowing below. So it seems like it should not even be installed on the system. So I am wondering if it is possible to remove it from the listing.

Entry Details
Severity Informational
Task ID VCA1117132957
Date / Time 5/26/2005 11:42:50 AM
Message Smart Component, cp004183.exe, returned result code 3, no action taken.
Additional Data
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup Session Beginning 5/26/2005 - 11:42:47 AM
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Command Line Parameters Given: /silent

Name: HP ProLiant PCI Hot Plug Controller Driver for Windows
2000/Server 2003
New Version: 6.3.2.1

Beginning Silent Session...

The software is currently installed, but does not need to be installed on
this system.

Current Version: 6.1.2.5

Installation will not continue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
End Session
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a similar problem on our servers with a software package called. **Intel 6300ESB Chipset Support for Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003**

We sysprep our servers, so I think this chipset was on the source server. Any server with out this chipset displays an out of date version that cannot be updated.

To remove this from the VCA page I deleted the refrences to the package from c:\CPQSYSTEM\pnpdrvs. My problem was with chipset inf files, your package might be in a different location you may have to hunt a little.

To identify the files to remove click on the version link in the VCA. This will open a information page on the software that includes the .exe file. Get that .exe file from your repository and extract the contents. Next remove the files you identified from c:\CPQSYSTEM\pnpdrvs. This fixed it for me.

At some point the unneeded driver has been installed.

I know it's not easy to remove them as they are not associated with a device.

You can sometimes manually update these by running the CPnnnnn.exe file directly and forcing it to update. But you may wish to investigate removing Drivers that are not required.

On a Smart Start build of a Server, the correct drivers etc. should be installed and updating PSP's is a simple matter of pushing the whole PSP out and letting the VCA determine what's required.
