Hi,
I've got a note from HP saying there is a fix for the "failed to retrieve from the repository problem". Here is the link:

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp30501-31000/sp30629.TXT

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp30501-31000/sp30629.exe

Good luck,
ana

Hi,
I've experienced several times while running the install software and firmware task that the job fails with status "Failed to retrieve software component from repository". At that point the VCRM repository is not available if you try to access it from a VCA and the only way to so far to resolve it is to restart VCRM service on the management server. This is annoying when you are running tasks on the number of servers and all of a sudden all jobs fail since components cannot be downloaded from the repository. I'm running HP SIM V4.2 SP2.
Is there a fix for this problem in HP SIM?
Thanks,
Ana

Based on your description you may have run across a problem recently under investigation. It is difficult to say if what you are seeing is the exact same problem, however there is a fix in progress for it and will be made available on the web for download. Currently there is no estimate for the availability as yet. The actual problem is related to VCRM and in some instances the SMH.

There is something that you might try but it will slow down your software deployments. You might try going to your HPSIM installation and:

Edit config\globalsettings.props to set the SWDeploymentMaxDownloadDevices=10 to SWDeploymentMaxDownloadDevices=1

This limits how many systems it will try to deploy/download to and it may help work around some of what you are seeing until a fix is available. If this is the same issue it is very configuration dependent so it may or may not serve as a useful workaround.

If you try this out you will want to change the setting back when a fix is available for this.

-Rich
I've seen this problem when trying to update a single server. It will consistently fail on the same software component. I have verified taht the component is in the repository and that is not corrupt.

Hi,
Yes, that is correct. When the problem occurs you will fail always on the same component iregardless of the number of machines you are deploying the firmware/software to. I found that stopping and starting the VCRM service helps resolve the problem.
Thanks,
Ana

We're having a similar problem, although I seem to have found that's occuring almost exclusively after I've done a deploy of the Initial Proliant Support Pack from the SIM server. After that has completed (and it always finishes successfully) the system that has been updated can no longer download *any* item from the CMS. I get these same errors on every update. I've tried the deploy checking the SSH box and tried not checking it, either way it no longer downloads updates. Phone support didn't have an answer for me and at present, we're pretty much stuck with a few of our servers not able to get updates.

I have this problem using SIM 5.0 SP4. Always fails on the same component and occurs if I do one or multiple deployments at a time. Support pack will install without issue if I go through the server's vca.
